What to see in September

As the nights draw in and the days turn cooler, the most dramatic of events starts in a couple of our Royal Parks (Richmond and Bushy Park) - the rut. Where the male deer, stags, fight for the right to mate with the females (doe’s). This can be quite something to witness but please remember that when going out to watch that you keep your distance, so as to not disturb them.

September can still be warm and some of my favourite creatures can still be found on the wing.

The first clouded yellow butterfly that I have recorded on Barnes Common, September 4th 2022 and until this moment, I hadn’t realised that they even have yellow eyes.

Common Blue

A dragonfly, a southern hawker, that I recorded at the London Wetland Centre in September 2020

There is also a lot of colour still about in September, here at Kew Gardens, so although the rain is very welcome, there are sure to be a few dry days yet to come when you can get out and enjoy the sights and sounds of London.
