Photographic Tip Number 3

A Black-headed gull at WWT London

It has been scientifically proven that the human eye prefers to look at things off centre, so when you are composing your next picture, do consider how it might be viewed and see about placing your subject away from the middle. It’s called 'The rule of thirds’ and if you look at the picture below, you will see that I have divided the image up into blocks and to improve your picture taking, try and place your subject at the intersections of the lines, rather than the middle. There are exceptions of course, as with any rule but stick with this advice and you won’t go wrong - the summer is a wonderful time to get out and enjoy our open spaces and hopefully this little bit of advice will help you the next time you reach for your camera - enjoy.
