Wimbledon - did you know?

Strawberries and cream and the hint of a shower means only one thing, the arrival of Wimbledon, when the eyes of the world turn to our little part of London.

For two weeks, South West London suddenly becomes the focus for every tennis and sports fan the world over but did you know that the club has not always been where it is currently situated and had more humble beginnings in another part of Merton?

The All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club started life in 1868 in a little street just off Worple Road and remained here until the popularity of the sport meant that it had to move to bigger premises and moved across to the other side of Wimbledon and its current site in Church Road.
