Photographic Tip Number 6

Reflections can be an excellent way of having fun, filling space and adding drama to your pictures.

Putney Embankment at high tide.

Alpine Barnes. Here the clouds almost give an impression that there are mountains in Barnes, here reflected in the pond.

You can also play with reflections creatively, like here where I have taken a picture of Putney Bridge, but in reflection and waited for one of the many London buses to come into shot. The heron was a bonus.

Putney Bridge.

I am often found kneeling on the ground to make use of a puddle, which can often offer up stunning images - like here at the Albert Hall recently.

Reflections can also be used to add symmetry to your photos and fill in what might otherwise be dead space or is this case just grey tarmac.

So the next time you are out don’t walk by some water, without considering whether it offers you new opportunities for expanding your photography.

Putney Lower Common.

Putney Heath.

Barnes Green.
