Fungi - autumn's present to us all
If you go down to the woods today…fungi can be found anytime but particularly in the autumn, when its warm and wet. You’ll need something to lean on as they are best examined and photographed down at their level and my other bit of advice is to look out for rotting wood, as they love nothing better - enjoy.
One time, I was so engrossed in what I was doing that I hardly noticed that I had been joined by the gardeners friend, who was enjoying the way I was disturbing some of the ground.
If Robin’s weren’t enough, I was once surprised to find a slug photo-bombing my shot.
A little tip, phone cameras are great at taking those unusual shots, as they are small enough to reach the ground.
As if to prove my point about fungi loving wood, you need to take care with this bench at the Wetland Centre in Barnes.
The fungi season extends well into November and with over 15,000 different types in the UK alone, you are sure to have fun discovering what can be found just about anywhere.
